This surgeonfish is a great swimmer that appreciates high-speed runs. Very active, it needs space to swim and is not suited for aquariums under 400 liters. Living together with another Acanthurus Leucosternon is almost impossible, it can however tolerate other species if it does not feel any type of threat. Always willing to let itself be cleansed off parasites by cleaner fish like Labroides, it will adopt a very typical posture. It can prove aggressive towards newcomers. Herbivorous and very dynamic, it will spend a lot of calories and needs a rich and considerable daily intake of vegetable foods (fresh or lyophilized algae, herbivore fish pellets). It enjoys sporting the decor and corals in search of algae. The shape of its beak does not allow it to swallow large prey: it eats regularly in small amounts. In optimal conditions it can reach up to 20 years.
