Butterfly fish (Chaetodontidae), are popular aquarium fish due to their attractive coloration and small size . Most species have showy eye patch in the rear portion of the dorsal fin to deceive visually oriented predators. Their natural habitat are the reefs of the Indo-Pacific, the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. Due to their specific dietary behavior they make particularly high demands on the aquarium maintenance. Butterfly fish are mainly mandatory or discretionary coral eaters.
