The Serranus Basses, also called Serranidae are part of the order of the dragon-like head. Many species have a colored tint, a property that makes them popular aquarium fish. The fish family is very rich in species, with some species that can be more than 2m long. The majority is establish in tropical and subtropical waters. A few Serranidae are located in freshwater. All subsequently studied species are hermaphrodites.
